Happy 18th Birthday, Malala!
Happy Birthday, dear Malala! We thank you for being a voice for the millions of children around the world who deserve education and to live in peace. You are a true inspiration! ❤
To celebrate Malala’s birthday wish, I invited Martha, my dear friend and Team For Kids teammate to lunch. I suggested we both bring some of our favorite books. I wanted to honor and celebrate Malala’s courage to support education and peace. We shared a picture of us on social media and told world leaders to invest in #BooksNotBullets.
Martha and I had a wonderful time sharing stories about our favorite books.
I brought “A Tree Grows In Brooklyn” by Betty Smith. This book was recommended to me by my dear friend, Nancy, and it made me fall deeply in love with Brooklyn ❤ . I also brought “1984” by George Orwell. This classic reminded me so much of how I grew up under communism – being constantly watched/spied on and manipulated by the totalitarian government at the time. Martha brought Poetry by Emily Dickinson and “Richard II” by William Shakespeare.
Martha is an avid reader! She has taught at NYU School of Professional Studies for over 25 years, mostly Ancient Greek. She reads in French, Greek, Latin and English. How awesome is that! I love Martha!
